Easter Lily EP

I like this EP more than the Days of Ash EP (which was good, but not great). These songs have arrangements more akin to U2's earlier work, with a lot of delay/echo on guitar (except for Coexist), whereas the Days of Ash songs seemed more like more recent U2 productions. IMO, every song on Easter Lily is good, my favorites being Scars, Resurrection Song, and Easter Parade (love the outro instrumental part on this one). Coexist is interesting and fairly uniquely sounding in terms of a U2 song.

Wow! What a stunner! Song for Hal is a deeply moving tribute to Hal Willer, a long time collaborator and probably best known for his musical work on Saturday Night Live, who died from COVID related complications. It’s simply a beautiful song for a lost friend. The EP ends with COEXIST, a mellow reverent in the vein of 40.

This collection of songs is really growing on me. I am looking forward to the next possible EP and / or full album when it comes out. I personally like this batch of songs more than the previous Days of Ash. Although there were a few gems on that EP. Everything is hitting on this one, from the rhythm section to the Edge’s guitar and Bono’s vocals and lyrics. Every song is great! Definite highlights are Song For Hal, Scars, and Resurrection Song.

I have liked U2 for many years. Sure, there are a couple of albums like No Line and Songs of Innocence where the band does not seem in its best form, but U2’s remaining substantial body of work is fantastic. Easter Lily, simply put, is some of their best work. Bono, sounds great as always, Larry, has always been great, but he has taken it to a whole new level, amazing before, amazing now, but with a different style. I don’t understand how he did it. Same with Adam, he seems to have developed ADHD with the bass, he seems to want to see how many times he can change notes in a song, really amazing. Larry and Adam have baptized the rhythm section with a new sound, next level for sure. The Edge, always the sonic master, takes this album into overdrive and ends up high up in the sonic atmosphere. Truly some of the most beautiful and unique guitar playing. From the opening note of I will follow, to Easter Lily, and most everything in between, U2 has again proven, they are not going to throw in the towel by a long shot, and they have successfully filled the world with wonder and hope that music can bring.

I tried hard to understand this album, but nothing came out of it, it’s pointless and boring

At first I looked at this as another cash grab, keep in mind, I think U2 are one of the greatest bands,despite Bono, powerful release, song #6, CCOEXIST, one of the best songs I have heard, very long time, very Dylan esque.

U2 are back with simply gorgeous music. I can’t tell what is sending me more: the Edge going full-on Edge in blissful effervescence …or Larry just killing it on the drums. Bono sounds amazing, and there’s at least one, if not two songs, where Adam‘s baseline steals the show. This is subtler, more spiritual music, but so so good.
