MMM put a lot of thought and effort into this collection. At the risk of getting a few brickbats, his re-recording of the mega-hit Wildfire on this CD is, in my view, better than the original single from 1975. As an aside, I find it strange that no one else (to my knowledge) has covered that song -- I'd like to hear Ludinda Williams' take on it.

Great song, either this isn't the original recording, or my hearing is seriously failing. Find a copy of 'Blue Sky, Night Thunder' and listen to the difference. Didn't listen to 'What's Forever For' off this compilation, because I was too disappointed by 'Wildfire' to want to try.

Six of the songs on this album are all-time classics. Of course everyone knows “Wildfire”, but the inclusion of “Cherokee Fiddle” and “What’s Forever For” on this collection is a great bonus. The first three songs on this album are better than anything most artists could hope for in their career, and they don’t even include “Wildfire”. Even the lesser-known tunes here are catchy, like “Don’t Count the Rainy Days”. These hits all came while MMM was still riding high in mainstream pop music, before he turned his attentions to traditional cowboy music with the release of his hugely popular “Cowboy Songs” albums. At any rate, if you like “Carolina in the Pines” or “Wildfire”, you can’t go wrong with this collection.
