Carly Simon has been one of my favorite singer-songwriters for decades. Her story telling is sophisticated and warm with melodies that stay with you. I was so excited to hear this album and it truly is up to date with a little melancholy from past years.
Thank you sweet Carly for this magical ride. You are so loved❤️
I didn’t know I needed this album!

Simply stunning. Like an old friend you thought was long gone has come to tell you they’re still here and they love you. Thank you Carly!!

What a TREMENDOUS gift to Carly fans and music fans in general. These songs, curated from over many years, seem to have been waiting for each other. They are singularly great songs but together they shine even brighter. A collection that gets better with every single listen.
Carly is back in a big way

Admittedly, I’ve been a fan of Carly Simon since the 1970s, but that doesn’t mean I’ve automatically loved every album. Most of her records are fantastic, but even on ones that I like there has usually been one song that I end up skipping when it comes on. And I was not a fan of her last album of all new material which came out about 18 years ago.
But “Comes in Waves” is a tour de force. Every song on it is Carly at her best, and as a whole it represents her distinguished career well. From the pop perfection of Howl to deeply moving, fit-right-in-with-American-Songbook-Standards, like Maybe I Never Loved You, the album tells a cohesive story of love, loss, life, and survival.
I haven’t stopped listening since it dropped a couple days ago.
Highly recommend this one!

Carly’s voice has never sounded stronger. The personal journey here is pure Carly. Soulful, silly, filled with “read between the lines” innuendo. The background vocals are strong and sometimes unexpected (in a good way). This collection reminds us why we love her and how much she’s been missed. We hope she doesn’t stay away so long next time. PS Mother of Pearl is most magnificent!

We Really Have No Secrets
This is easily Carly’s best album since No Secrets.
The songs are not only a revelation lyrically (which was always her strength), but they’re often melodically great. If this is her last album - and I really hope it’s not since I came of age with her (I’m 13 years younger), she has gone out with a bang.
Thank you Carly.👍🙏💙💙💙💙👏👏👏👏👏
Songs of Such an Open Heart

Heartbreak, age, and illness do not define us, only time and love do, or should. For me, listening to Carly Simon so closely for nearly 50 years has been one of the consistent great joys of my life. For so many reasons. First is the rareness of her actual voice. A contralto three octave range that sits in the space where men and women who sing meet. Many pop singers have her same range or even broader, but they can’t sing where she does. The women struggle to hit her low notes, the men struggle to hit the high. This is why her songs are not covered broadly. Second is the intimacy and bravery she willingly reveals as her thoughts and struggles become these magical honest gorgeous words and melodies. And third, and most importantly, she believes in love. “I believe in love, what else can I do.” She sings famously in Coming Around Again. This is why you must hear Comes in Waves, an unexpected gorgeous lovely gift to all of us late in life. Because this record, all her records, make you feel what it means to be human, to believe in love with all its highs and lows, and in the act of listening to actually feel love. If you’re not afraid to feel, to love, buy Comes in Waves. And listen to it. You will love it. — L Baach

Carly's Comes in Waves...the Unexpected Gift

On "Comes in Waves," Carly Simon's reflective new collection of songs on parenting, loving, losing, and dealing with life's challenges and rewards, I hear her healing and familiar voice and her facility with rich melodies that have been a balm since I was 9. But this time, especially, she's writing directly to my soul. Songs as if made to order. Just in time.
"Love the Way I Do" gives me back the Mom I lost four years ago (four years, already?) Carly's loving lyric and melancholic melody bring tears:
𝘙𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦, 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦/𝘞𝘦 𝘵𝘸𝘰, 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘣𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦/𝘐'𝘮 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘥/𝘗𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘸 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩, 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘸/𝘗𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦, 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘐 𝘥𝘰.
On "Do It Anyway" Carly ponders, 𝘚𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥/𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘺 𝘔𝘢𝘮𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥? Her words remind ME to never give in to the recurrent, debilitating doubts and fears that paralyzed my past. They still dare to linger, to taunt and scare. Except now, I say "Yes!":
𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦/𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘫𝘰𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦/𝘐𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦/𝘋𝘰 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘢𝘺.
On "The Father Daughter Dance," Carly recalls a formal dance at the Y with her Dad when she was 10. She leaves the sob in her voice intact on the mournful recording. The ballad made the 18-year-old daughter of one of my best friends quietly cry when I played it for her this weekend.
𝘈𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘴 𝘐 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘐 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦/𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘺𝘮/𝘈𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳-𝘥𝘢𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦.
"The More I Look for You" set the tears flowing, twice, on first listen for my oldest swimming and school buddy a couple weeks ago when I held him captive in my car on a long drive to our mutual oldest best friend. Carly's advance music was our ride's soundtrack.
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶/𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦/𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘮 𝘐 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦/𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘐 𝘸𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯/𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘐 𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘯 𝘷𝘢𝘪𝘯/𝘐 𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘶𝘱/A𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯/𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘐'𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘶𝘱 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯/𝘖𝘳 𝘢 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘵𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶.
In June, the first single, "Howl," gave me permission to vent, guilt-free, on the exact day I really needed to ...
𝘏𝘰𝘸𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘥, 𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳/𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯, 𝘤𝘳𝘺, 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳/𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘨, 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘦/ 𝘚𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯, 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘳.
God bless, Carly. Thank you for a lifetime of music that has shockingly scaled a new peak at just the time I, 𝘸𝘦, needed to hear it. And for teaching me the power of words, how to write, and for giving me a career and the tools to teach this generation how to write.

I was little. My mother belted out your songs like they were meant for her. I’m so sad to learn of your recent Dx. Please don’t be shy about being in public. We lose too much time worrying about being judged based on an appearance. Step out and step proud! You’ve gotten a lot of us over some bumps in the road. It’s our turn to return the favor. 🫶🏾 You’ve got this Mrs. Simon! 🫱🏽🫲🏾
