I've been listening to this album almost non-stop since it was released. I love it. I only wish there were more songs on it. Hopefully they'll record another album together soon!

Not sure what it is, but I can't quit listening to this album. Similar feel to Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott's "Real Time", another favorite of mine. A must-have for anyone who is into this type of music!

They are the best thing around. Buy the album. Go to the Nonesuch records site and watch them on the video streams. Then go see in them in concert because that is where you will be FLATTENED by how awesome they are together. Then go back and buy the album again to support great music.
Powerful, collaborative bluegrass

This is outstanding bluegrass at its most fundamental level-- two voices, two instruments, and raw, unfettered emotion. Both Thile and Daves are outstanding musicians. Thile is among the most brilliant musicians I've heard in any genre and Daves brings not only technical virtuosity but a constantly surprising and unique take on the guitar. Their voices mesh perfectly, with both switching between lead and tenor depending on the song. This is above all a collaboration-- the two really play off each other and create a powerful whole that keeps some more modern sensibilities without sacrificing any of the raw emotional intensity that characterized bluegrass and old-time music from the beginning. They recorded this album by simply playing live in a studio, fully capturing all the unexpected brilliance a true collaboration brings. The songs are a wonderful sampling of some of the best of Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, the Louvin Brothers, Jimmy Martin, and more. Some-- like Ookpik Waltz-- are painfully beautiful, showcasing the full range of emotional content they are able to find in their material. They also included a few fiddle tunes in the mix, reflecting the "Fiddle Tune Request Time" that is a much loved part of their live shows at small clubs in Manhattan.
Monroe Brothers on Steroids. Great.

Great mandolin/guitar/brother singing that pre-dates bluegrass and is still modern.
This is great. They have brought this music into a new century.
But also check out the original Monroe Brother recordings.
Powerful stuff.
Brilliant!

A soild buy for all who enjoy a hot bluegrass tune or two. Thile and Daves are two men who have mastered their instruments which makes this album a blast to listen to The vocals are good, a solid mix with a great bluegrass tone. Overall a great buy. If you are looking for good bluegrass, you have found it.
