    I love A Little Night Music. One of my favorite shows by Sondheim. I thought Catherine Zeta-Jones was great in this, she was very emotional during "Send in the Clowns". Angela Lansbury had a FANTASTIC Madame Armfeldt. Leighann Larkin is stunning. Her belt makes me cry. (she was great in Gypsy too!) I love the original cast with Glynis Johns, but I really have to say this was just as great.

I know Leigh Ann Larkin I saw her on stage 3 or 4 years ago in beauty and the beast she was amazing and I said that girls going to be on broadway with her name in lights and here she is(was)!!!!! I love her voice!!! I truly think A Little Night Music is Sondhiems best work musically. The music stands on it's own so well. I love listening to it. Buy this!

    is to hear Angela Lansbury's take on M. Arnfeldt. That's it and that's all. Then migrate over to hear Len Cariou, Glynis Johns and Hermoine Gingold in the original 1973 version of the show. Not to slam the actors involved in this - but the original is the best (and there is no duplicate or comparison to Glynis Johns' incredible voice).

    It seems like a lot of people are slamming Catherine Zeta-Jones here... She may not be the greatest singer to cover "Send in the Clowns," but she makes a wonderful Desiree and acts the scene with incredible emotional power; she is a brilliant casting choice, and her gravely voice fits with Sondheim's most popular song. Also, Sondheim wrote the song for Glynis Johns because she couldn't sustain notes for very long. True story. Regardless, this cast is pretty stellar - Angela Lansbury is always a force to be reckoned with, Catherine Zeta-Jones is gorgeous and fully captivating, and young stand-out Leigh Ann Larkin gives a juicy performance (she should have been nominated for a Tony this year). The recording and production's highlights are "You Must Meet My Wife," "Send in the Clowns," "The Miller's Son," and everything with Angela. I'm hoping they'll put out a deluxe version of this recording once Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch take over starting July 13th. While these orchestrations certainly aren't as lush as the original production, there are some beautiful arrangements. You also just can't go wrong with Sondheim! The material itself is irresistible. I'd recommend seeing the the current revival before buying this recording (versus the original) - I bought specific tracks I wanted, but didn't feel the need to repurchase another entire recording of "A Little Night Music." While the actual production leaves something to be desired (this should have been a sure-fire Tony winner for Best Revival, which will now certainly go to "La Cage aux Folles"), this stunning cast does not.

    I haven't heard the OBC but i bought this album after hearing all the hype about it! It is pretty amazing!!! Catherine Zeta-Jones sounds wonderful! Angela Lansbury is also amazing and sounds wonderful! However, the question remaining is: Is it worth $19.99 when i can just as easily buy the OBC for $9.99? The Answer is yes it is very well worth the extra money!!!!!!!

    I had a wonderful time when I saw this show a few weeks ago. The cast was amazing with Zetta-Jones and Lansbury leading the camp. I liked Alexander Hanson as Frederick and after listening to this recording slightly sore that I had missed him the night I went to see this performance. His understudy; Stephen R. Buntrock's good too. Aaron Lazar; what's there say other than he's a gem. He was great and I really loved him as Count Carl Magnus. An Amazing actor and quite sexy. Larkin as Petra is truly bliss in that juicy role. Katherine McNamara is such a peach as Frederika. Hunter Ryan Herdlicka and Ramona Mallory were quite funny. Erin Davie as Charlotte had me wanting to roll on the floor in laughter especially in Act Two dinner scene. The cast overall did an outstanding job. The Broadway Cast Revival is brillant; their work is preserved for our enjoyment.

    I was rather disappointed by this production on Broadway. I was fortunate enough to see the original production, and it remains one of the highlights of my theatre-going life. I was really looking forward to this version, but there were a few things that marred the experience for me. The most jarring was Zeta-Jones. She is simply wrong for the role. She comes off extremely shrewish and classless, especially in You Must Meet My Wife (I thought she'd pull back for the recording but no such luck). Glynis Johns, the original Desiree, was the epitome of class and style, heartbreaking and funny at the same time. The overall direction was off also; Trevor Nunn directed with a heavy hand that turned a really funny and life-affirming show into a Night Music as written by Henrik Ibsen. The opening segment is painfully slow, everyone in Act I dressed in black and in shadows. The second act is, thankfully, somewhat better. The good: Alexander Hanson is terrific as Fredrik, and Angela Lansbury steals the show and rolls off with it in her wheelchair. She's a lesson in less is more; she is a treasure and the whole show (and recording) is worth it for her. It's nice having more music on this recording, but the lushness of the original orchestrations is sorely missed. A mixed effort at best.

    Though the original cast's album was quite good, the quality of the voices and the recording here are spectacular. Every principal is fantastic, except Zeta-Jones, who is adequate (I was lucky to see her magnificent understudy). The inclusion of much of Hugh Wheeler's dialogue and the accompanying booklet/libretto makes this great album even better, especially because of Lansbury's one-liners, which are simply the best.

    What she does is she talks on pitch. Just listen. There's nothing musical about the sound that comes out of her mouth. Having said that, she is very beautiful and the show is a classic. I don't know if I'll buy this version.
