Petal brings you on a journey into the raw realness of Ariana. The cohesiveness of this album and its reflection on her past works, reminds you just how much she has endured. She weaves her entire discography into a whole and especially with Petal. So much change, experimenting, growing up, and immense trauma. And yet, she always remains growing, learning, and shining. Her impact has been incredible throughout the years, undoubtedly. However, i believe she now has her largest influence and an incredibly positive one at that. The message she has always conveyed is to keep going, keep loving, keep breathing, keep growing, and always be true to yourself. She has the ability to transform the listener into an almost other-worldly place. Of a place of utmost self reflection, and true presence. Her music to me, is such a high-vibrational frequency place, that I will always choose to go back to, over and over. She truly brings me into a better place. Always. This album specifically shows true self acceptance, self accountability, and self love. This album means the world to me. She needs to stop working with Max Martin as a producer. The beats sound messy and all over the place, the auto tune overshadowed her voice on a majority of the album. Back to the drawing board for Ariana and release a 100% R&B album, cos this ain’t it!

Update: this album did not go where I was expecting it to. I had such a high hopes, but ultimately I would say I like about 2/3s of the songs. The albums starts off well with the first three songs, but then falls off until after the interlude. I was thinking htimylm would be a good indication of the type of beat/style/production of the rest of the songs, but not really…
Also “never get over me” just sounds like dandelion 2.0.. a few other songs sound reminiscent of her other work as well, so I’m not seeing as much growth as I was hoping for. Time will tell, but for now, I’m giving the album 3/5 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I do believe htimylm should still have a remix featuring Taylor Swift, but even more so, I think the title track Petal should feature Taylor Swift. That song is like the first time another artist perfectly encapsulated Taylor Swift’s experiences (I.e., specifically during the Eras Tour and such).
Old Review:
(I will update this upon album release) So far the lead single is amazing! It’s such a dreamy hypnotic song. Her lower register is really nice to listen to here. I can’t help but think that Taylor Swift would make an excellent feature in this song - specifically jumping in the second verse and harmonizing in the final bridge. Taylor has such a rich lower register as well, and they would blend beautifully on this track! I am now REALLY looking forward to the rest of the album!
