Lily Allen really outdid herself with this album. Every song is well crafted from the storytelling lyrics, moody instrumentals, to the emotional vocals Lily delivers. What makes this album stand out is that Lily isn't just telling her story -- she's showing it musically. You can feel the sadness in her voice and the accompanying instrumentals further carry and add to the emotion. This is not your usual pop album written with beats that "sound good" -- they were custom made to wrap around Lily's lyrics.
As if all that weren't good enough, Lily's songwriting is perhaps the most raw, honest, and personal we've ever seen from an artist. I was absolutely floored when I listened to this album, and you probably will be too.

I can’t believe these lyrics were written in just ten days. Instead of just dropping trails of breadcrumbs and codes within the lyrics, leaving fans to dissect and speculate over, Lily Allen just laid it on the line. It’s her story, and she tells it like it is. The music is her classic style mixed with modern FaceTime-esque conversation, this album is edgy, fresh, and addictive. “Madeleine” is one of my favorites. It’s as if we’re right there with her as it plays out. I think so far this is my favorite LP of all of hers.

I loved the "old" Lily Allen records and I still want her to be good. I still cheer for her and I find myself hoping she's happy.
But this record does nothing for me. Fourteen mid-tempo tunes that all sound melancholy and sung in what I can only call a disinterested tone. Clearly all the talent is still there, the voice is still there, the lyric-writing is still top notch...but nothing is memorable. It pains me to say it, but nothing on this record makes me want to listen again and again. It's drudgery.
